"It’s not just about the money;
it’s about being good stewards of our community."
Mary Nemeth, VP of Corporate Support Services
Rutland Regional Medical Center’s importance to the Rutland
community is considerable, both as the area’s largest employer, and as
a leader in patient care. Over the past few years, their forward-thinking
approach to energy efficiency has had a real impact: helping both to
ensure their lasting economic viability and to inspire their neighbors
by example.
Through a partnership with Efficiency Vermont, Rutland Regional has
completed 33 energy efficiency projects over the past decade, including
upgrades to medical equipment, lighting, HVAC, and compressed
air systems. Each project was carefully considered beforehand, based
on skilled technical review and cash flow analyses, resulting in a
cumulative yearly savings of $262,000—the lifetime benefit of which
is substantial.
Rutland Regional has reached other strategic goals through energy
efficiency including improved building comfort, better patient
experience, and reduced environmental impact, all while raising
employee awareness so that staff can enjoy similar benefits in their
own homes.
One of 69 businesses now participating in the Energy Leadership
Challenge, Rutland Regional is continuing their commitment to energy
efficiency, pledging to achieve a two-year 7.5% energy savings at their
facilities. Energy leadership—and creating a goal to reduce energy
consumption—is one more reason why Rutland Regional remains a
leader in the health of the community it serves.
