What makes a refrigerator energy efficient?
ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerators are required to use 15% less energy than models not labeled with the ENERGY STAR logo. Refrigeration technology has improved significantly in the past 40 years. Three key improvements add up to greater efficiency:
- High-efficiency compressors use less energy to operate the refrigerator, are often quieter than regular compressors, and create less heat while they are running.
- Improved insulation located in doors and exterior walls helps food stay cold.
