Student Scholarships available to Better Buildings by Design

Deciding on a career path is hard, but Efficiency Vermont is hoping to make it a little easier for students to choose working in the clean energy industry. Students can apply for a Blair Hamilton Student Scholarship to attend a full day of Better Buildings by Design Conference (BBD) this April 5th and 6th.
BBD is one of the region’s premier building performance conferences, which draws hundreds of clean energy industry partners each year.
The scholarship is named for the co-founder of VEIC, the Vermont-based nonprofit that operates Efficiency Vermont. Blair Hamilton passed away in 2011. During his life he was a driving force in creating Efficiency Vermont, the nation’s first energy efficiency utility, and helped start similar programs in other states and countries.
“The Blair Hamilton Award seeks to remove financial barriers for students, allowing them attend informative sessions and network with clean energy professionals,” said Bryn Oakleaf, Efficiency Vermont’s lead contact for BBD. “Right now, Vermont is challenged to attract students into skilled trades, including in the clean energy sector. So we are excited to offer this scholarship to students that want to learn more about the career opportunities available.”
Scholarship applications take only minutes to complete and are due by March 1. Efficiency Vermont strongly encourages those from traditionally socially disadvantaged communities to apply. View submission requirements and official application form.
There are 40 one-day scholarships available to college students, high school students and adult learners in Vermont. Adult learners eligible for scholarship consideration are those that are actively enrolled in coursework to pursue a degree, license, or certification in the trades. BBD provides building professionals with a range of continuing education opportunities to build up their knowledge in energy efficiency best practices and technologies to better serve their customers. The participants are members of Vermont’s 17,500 person-strong clean energy workforce.
